  1.        INSTALLATION AND SETUP FOR THE KEYBOARD INSTRUCTOR

  5. Hardware required for THE KEYBOARD INSTRUCTOR are as follows:
  6.  
  7.      *PC with 8086, 8088, 80286, 80386, 80486 and up microprocessor
  8.       family.
  9.      *Hard disk drive with at least 1.5 megabytes available.
  10.      *VGA monitor recommended for TKI graphics.  CGA and Monochrome
  11.      *will function but will not utilize full functionality of TKI.
  12.      *Soundblaster compatible sound card with headphones or      
  13.       speakers.
  14.      *640k RAM with at least 540k free for program execution.
  15.  
  16. NOTE:     Certain memory resident programs may conflict with the
  17.           sound routines utilized with TKI.  If you experience odd
  18.           problems, try remarking out these TSR's in you
  19.           AUTOEXEC.BAT file and re-booting the computer. 
  20.           Information regarding these conflicts are very useful to
  21.           us at Educational Methods and a phone call to our office
  22.           at 501-229-1880 reporting such problems would be much
  23.           appreciated.

  26. To run TKI on a VGA type display, type TKIRUN and press ENTER at
  27. the dos prompt within the directory you have installed TKI.  To run
  28. TKI on a NON-VGA monitor type TKIMONO.

  31. TO OPERATE TKI, YOU WILL NEED TO RUN THE SETUP PROGRAM PROVIDED.
  32.  
  33. To run the setup program, go to the directory that you placed the
  34. TKI system and run SETUP.EXE.  For example, if you place the TKI
  35. files on the C drive, in a directory called TKI off the root
  36. directory, then simply type  CD\TKI  at the DOS prompt of drive C
  37. and press ENTER.  Then, type  SETUP  and hit the ENTER key.
  38.  
  39.    The following describes what answers are expected in SETUP.
  40.  
  41. 1)   THE DIRECTORY/PATH OF YOUR WORD PROCESSOR PROGRAM.
  42.      At this prompt you will instruct TKI how to automatically
  43.      execute your favorite word processing software.  An example of
  44.      a response for WordPerfect is as follows:
  45.                     
  46.                     C:\WP51\WP.EXE
  47.  
  48.      This would assume your WordPerfect is in a directory called
  49.      "WP51" on the  C  drive and the WordPerfect program is called
  50.      "WP.EXE" which in the case of WordPerfect, it is normally
  51.      supplied with that name.  Variations of this will occur with
  52.      other vendors such as Microsoft Word where you may have:

  54.                     C:\WORD\WORD.EXE
  55.  
  56. Refer to the manual of your word processor for details on this.

  59. 2)   THE HARD DRIVE LETTER THE KEYBOARD INSTRUCTOR IS ON.
  60.      Simply respond by pressing the letter of the disk drive that
  61.      you have placed TKI. 
  62.  
  63. 3)   THE DIRECTORY OF SUBDIRECTORY THAT THE KEYBOARD INSTRUCTOR
  64.      RESIDES.
  65.      This can be anything you wish.  If the directory that you
  66.      placed TKI in is off the root directory, you must precede that
  67.      name with a backslash such as  \TKI.  If you placed TKI in a
  68.      subdirectory, than that name will precede  \TKI.

  70. 4)   THE DRIVE LETTER THAT YOU WILL USE FOR YOUR PERSONAL DATA
  71.      DISKETTE.
  72.      To operate TKI you will need to have a data disk in either
  73.      your A or B drive.  TKI downloads all lesson information to a
  74.      floppy disk to ensure privacy and prevent tampering of lesson
  75.      information.

  77. 5)   ARE YOU USING A VGA COMPATIBLE MONITOR?
  78.      Indicate a Y for yes if you have a VGA capabilities and a N
  79.      for anything else.

  81. 6)   INSTALLATION IS COMPLETE!
  82.      You are finished with the SETUP, and are now ready to run THE
  83.      KEYBOARD INSTRUCTOR.
